Windows NT 3.x was actually the first version of Windows to boot into the legendary teal background. Since it wasn't nearly as popular as Windows 95 or the direct NT-line successor 4.0, most people associate the color with one of those systems. However, since Windows NT 3.x most commonly used 16 colors, the teal was a bit lighter than the 256 color version most commonly seen in Windows 95.
